I have been very interested in the Beauty industry since I first began work experience at a Beauty salon back in 2002. I have now built my knowledge and skills to further my career. Working on the cruise ships gave me the opportunity to travel to different locations worldwide and meet many people, as well as gaining experience of Spa life onboard a ship. I have developed a good understanding of the Beauty industry while working in various different styles of salons.
From the cruise ships other doors opened for me and I was grateful to be given the opportunity to go and work on the beautiful island of Bermuda. I lived here for two and a half years, working for the well known hotel chain, Fairmont, in a luxurious 5 star resort. Here I performed relaxing spa treatments treatments for both local guests and visitors to the hotel.
After my time in Bermuda I decided to go travelling. I took a career break during this time and headed to India, where I attended a yoga school up in the Himilayan mountains. I was here for 6 weeks and gained a certificate in teacher training, something I practise regularly myself. I then travelled to Thailand spending a month backpacking here, before finishing my travels off in New Zealand.
I am still currently residing in New Zealand working in an amazing skin care clinic. I have been here for 2 years - taking 10months in between visa to go home to Scotland where I worked in a medical clinic.
My goals right now are to further my skills with more training. I am very ambitious and I want to be the best that I can be. I also have a keen interest in Health and Nutriotion and attend regular online courses to widen my knowledge.
These award winning Skin Care clinics are located in the city of Auckland. There a seven clinics with over 60 staff members from all over the world. As an employee here we were given extensive training regularly to keep us up to date with product knowledge and treatments. We were given constant training in retail and services and we attended regular workshops so every staff member was up to date with special offers and promotions. We specialised in advanced skincare treatments ranging from Omnilux light therapy to skin needling and laser facials. I worked hard during this role to progress quickly to the more advanced treatments. Prior to leaving this position I was fully booked with About Faces’ signature facial the ‘Power of Three’, this treatment could really be tailored to a clients’ skin type and concerns and included 3 of our advanced technologies – either a microdermabrasion or a peel, followed by an Omnilux light and finishing off with an infusion of vitamins into the skin. This treatment has been proven to be rather popular and has won many beauty awards over the years. During my time here I managed to build up a loyal clientele who would rebook with me regularly, often with the clinic being pre-booked for up to 6 weeks at a time, especially on late nights and weekends.
We kept thorough nores on each client and it was essential that every therapist kept up to date with client histories. We were also expected to keep track of our sales performance as well as hitting weekly retail and KPI targets which was never a problem for me.
I have recently trained in IPL hair removal, Clear and Brilliant Laser Skin Treatments and Collagen Induction Therapy. My next step will be IPL Skin Rejuvenation, Advanced Skin Theory Course and Paramedical Peels.
I very much enjoy my job here , I love working with the skin it is something I am very passionate about.
I returned to Scotland in between visa's for New Zealand for 10 months.
During this time I worked in my countries capital city of Edinburgh.
This was a medical aesthetic clinic which offered a range of cosmetic treatments including botox/fillers, Dermal Rolling, Exillis Radiofrequency, Laser Hair Removal, Tattoo Removal and Skni Rejuvenation, Skin Peels and Skin Analysis with Visia Scanner.
Our most popular treatment was the Alevere body contouring and weight loss programme. This was a medically formulated diet which was monitored by doctors. Patients would come in for weekly ultrasound treatments to breakdown the fat cells, then have a mechanical massage to contour the body and assist with lymphatic drainage.
This was an interesting time for me here I gained a wealth of knowledge in more advanced treatments and also weight loss treatments and nutriton.
I returned to New Zealand in February 2017 and to About Face.

I worked at this busy and reputable salon taking a 6 months out in between to take on a contract onboard the cruise ships. This is one of the longest standing salons in my local town and has a good reputation with the locals providing us with loyal customers. I very much enjoyed my work here.
I managed to build up a busy column of loyal clients performing a wide range of treatments from waxing and eye lash tinting to massage and facials. We have regular training sessions with reps from the product companies to keep our skills up to date.

I worked as an Esthetician for Canyon Ranch Spa Club onboard the luxurious Oceania Insignia. This is my second contract on the ship and Canyon Ranch has taken over the spas onboard.
Previous to joining the ship I attended a one week training course at Canyon Ranch headquarters in Tuscon, Arizona, where I learned the treatments and gained a certificate in Environ Skin Care. Working onboard was both exciting and challenging for me as I had to promote my treatments and products in order to book guests in. I did this by performing seminars about skin care to help educate and encourage people to look after their skin.
As part of the job I had to also work towards hitting my retail and service targets which was never a problem for me.
When I finished my contract here I went straight back to work for Mary Jeffreys Spa and Beauty Therapy, I then went to work in Bermuda.

I worked at House of Beauty for 3 years during which, I attended Dumfries and Galloway College. This is a busy salon, where I was able to improve my skills in all aspects of the job. I was also given hands on training with some of the senior members of staff who managed to pass on their skills and knowledge to me which I found extremely helpful during my training. Whilst working here I performed a range of treatments on the clients, including waxing, manicures, pedicures, eye lash tinting and perming, massage, false nails, spray tanning, manual tanning, Indian head massage and body scrubs.

I worked for Steiner Transocean for a period of eight months as a beauty therapist, onboard the luxurious Oceania Insignia.
My main role onboard was as an Ionithermist, which consisted of a detoxifying body treatment called Ionithermie. As the sole Ionithermist, I was responsible for carrying out all treatments on clients, as well as leading thirty minute seminars twice weekly, to educate the guests on board about detoxification. These seminars included information about nutrition and exercise for a healthy lifestyle
During this time, I worked closely with the fitness instructor. We regularly performed joint seminars, and worked closely with guests, designing lifestyle plans. These plans helped guests reach their goals, by giving them detailed advice on healthy living, weight loss plans, exercise routines and detoxification to suit their own lifestyle.
A substantial part of my job onboard was to sell the products I used in the spa. I consider it important to encourage my guests to continue using their lifestyle plans once they have left the ship. By selling the products I use on guests, I feel that I am able to make a long term difference to people’s lifestyles.
I also performed massage and facial treatments onboard the ship. This meant I had a busy column and was fully booked most days.
The products we worked with onboard were Elemis, Ionithermie, La Therapie, Steiner Hair Care, and Essie nail products. All staff had to have a brief knowledge of all the products sold onboard. I did a training course prior to my time on the ship where studied Elemis and Ionithermie.
